Even the closure of the third mainland bridge and the attendant traffic in Lagos State, could not deter well-wishers who came out in their number and from all works of life to celebrate the matriarch of the Elumelu clan, Chief Mrs Suzanne N Elumelu on the occasion of her 90th birthday which took place on Saturday, August 25th, 2018 at the Harbour Point Events Centre, Lagos.
Already, goodwill messages had come in the for Mama as she was fondly called, from Nigerian president Muhammadu Buhari, Former President, Ibrahim Badamosi Babaginda, the Delta State Gpvernor, Ifeanyi Okowa, and a host of others.
Mama was greatly commended for her strength of character and entrepreneurial spirit in raising a strong and healthy family, and her advocacy for good education and investment skills for children and women particularly in the country.
Her life story of succeeding against the odds of early widowhood served as an inspiration to many, while her virtues of the fear of God, discipline, integrity, dedication and hard work will continue to resonate among the communities of the less privileged that she supports and regularly encourages.
A thanksgiving service was held in her honour at the Church of Assumption, Falomo, Ikoyi and thereafter all roads led to the reception venue at Harbour Point where guests were treated to lots of fun.
The Chairman, United Bank for Africa Plc, Mr Tony Elumelu, who was on ground to welcome guests, said for him, watching his mother age gracefully gives him immeasurable joy.
In attendance were Elumelu’s entrepreneur/billionaire friends and well-wishers such as Aliko Dangote, Femi Otedola, Jim Ovia, Folorunsho Alakija, the Ooni of Ife, Oba Enitan Ogunwusi, Otunba Adekunle Ojora, the Oba of Lagos, Oba Rilwan Akiolu, the Obi of Onicha-Ugbo, HRM Agbogidi Chukwumeliaze.
Others were the Chairman Skymit Limited, Tayo Ayeni, Former Chairman Skye Bank, Tunde Ayeni, Segun Awolowo, Former Secretary General of the Common wealth, Chief Emeka Anyaoku, Prince Bola Akin Olugbade, Alhaji Aliko Dangote, Femi Otedola, Jim Ovia.
Guests were treated to good food and drinks of various kinds and lively musical performances by Beejay Sax, Elegant Stallion, Onyeka Onwenu and Pop star, Phyno. DJ Sousse was on the wheels of Steel.
The high point of the celebration was the cutting of the 90th birthday cake by Mama Suzanne flanked by her children, Grand-children and some of the dignitaries.
